Real Mad Honey: The International Standard on Mad Honey
If the internet has taught us anything about “mad honey,” it’s this: the product usually isn’t the problem — the information around it is.
Most distrust comes from sellers who can’t prove origin, can’t show batch testing, and don’t provide clear, responsible serving guidance.
Real Mad Honey removes that uncertainty with transparent sourcing, batch-by-batch testing, and straightforward guidance you can actually follow.
Our story
How it all started
In 2020, we, Martijn & Nick were sitting at a kitchen table in the Netherlands looking for a product to build an online business around.
Mad honey had kept showing up online on YouTube videos, wild stories and dramatic reactions. We got curious and wanted to try it ourselves. So we bought our first jar and truly enjoyed the experience. That’s what laid the first brick for Real Mad Honey.
We believed that there would be many more people like us - curious and open minded who’d like to try something new and different. We started studying the product, its origins, conducted market research and eventually we found their first supplier in Turkey.
But during our research, we noticed that almost every one selling mad honey online had a story but none of them could provide any proof. There were many sellers but no standard was being followed.
That’s what we decided to do differently and build our brand.
Customer conversations revealed a truth
Initially most of the customers buying Real Mad Honey were looking for only the “trippy effects” because that’s how it had been marketed all these years.
But as orders increased we started speaking to real customers and realized that a lot of people buying their honey were not chasing the “trippy” effect but they were using it like a small ritual in the evenings. People were using Real Mad Honey to feel calmer,
wind down and sometimes even focus.
That changed everything.
We realized that the honey wasn’t just misunderstood. It was being misrepresented.
That paved the way further for Real Mad Honey. We decided that if they wanted to build something concrete, we needed to build the standard the category lacked. That meant going deeper than surface level sourcing. It meant building trust through substantial proof and education.
Nepal changed everything (2023)
For the next two years we continued working towards our mission during which we came in contact with our Nepalese supplier:
a group of brothers from Nepal who have close ties with honey hunter communities deep in the Himalayan mountains.
This wasn’t a random middleman. These were real connections to the places where the honey was actually harvested. During our conversations, we all agreed how the honey had been misunderstood for ages.
So we traveled to Nepal all the way from Europe to see the full process ourselves. We wanted to learn everything about honey so that we could build the standard from scratch.
That journey became our documentary: The Journey of the Hive.

The international standard on Mad Honey you can trust.
Traceable sourcing (Nepal + Turkey)
We work with trusted partners in Nepal, sourcing through mountain communities where this honey is traditionally harvested. This isn’t anonymous bulk honey bought and relabeled—it’s a relationship-based supply chain where origin and handling are taken seriously.
And when we source from Turkey, we apply the exact same standard.
Batch-level lab reports and our rejection standard
Because GTX levels can vary, every batch we consider is tested by European labs, and we publish those reports. If results come back outside our thresholds or if anything looks inconsistent we don’t buy it.
If we don’t trust the batch, it never becomes a product.
Controlled serving guidance
The internet is full of mad honey horror stories for one reason: people treat it like a gamble.
That’s not what we sell.
We push the opposite philosophy: Start small. Wait. Observe. Stay in control.
We recommend starting with one teaspoon because responsible serving is what separates a calm ritual from an uncomfortable experience. We have also designed a proper dosage spoon you can purchase if you want consistent measuring.
Transparency checklist
If you’re buying mad honey online, you deserve answers without digging through forums. So we’ve built Real Mad Honey around a simple checklist:
Real origin (not vague “Himalayan” branding)
Batch-level testing (not generic “lab tested” claims)
A rejection standard (unsafe or inconsistent batches don’t get sold)
Clear serving guidance (no chasing intensity)
Honest expectations (some feel it strongly, others feel little — that’s normal)
Claims backed by real customers (Customer Interviews / Testimonials / Surveys)
